Almost 450 leading importers from 40 countries across the glob would participate in the Expo Pakistan 2010, to be held here from February 26 to 28 at Karachi Expo Centre. Over 450 of international companies/buyers have showed their interest in the forth coming international exhibition being organised by Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to promote the exports of the country.
A meeting of Exhibition Committee of the Expo Pakistan held here on Monday with Sindh Minister for Commerce & Industries Rauf Siddiqui in the chair, to review the arrangements of the exposition. Rauf Siddiqui, who is the Chairman of the Committee, was informed about the arrangements made for the exhibition, which earlier was postponed due to law and order situation in the city.
He informed the meeting that a separate meeting would be held in the next few days to review the security arrangements, for which the high-ups of both police and Rangers would be consulted.
The minister assured the members that more sponsorship for the event would be arranged from both public and private institutions. He asked the members to facilitate the guest with better arrangement of accommodations and other facilities.
The Minister commended the bookings of over 200 local and international companies and the participation of Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone as a sponsor of Expo Pakistan. Siddiqui highlighted the fact that Expo Pakistan was a national event and in order to enhance Pakistan's trade prospects in the global market, all the manufacturers and exporters of Pakistan should actively participate in the exhibition.
He also emphasised on the support of all the chambers and associations and the participation of their respective members. It was also decided in the meeting that the City District Government, Karachi (CDGK) would be consulted for display of hoardings and event monuments at key locations.
The members were informed that in the exhibition, products of different sectors like auto & auto parts, information technology, fabric & apparel, leather (products & accessories), food & ingredients, services sector, gems & jewellery, surgical & pharma, home & décor, sporting goods, industrial goods and textile would be displayed for the local and international buyers.
Mirza Kareem Baig; Secretary TDAP, said that the representatives of textile sector, who participate international exhibitions, should take more interest in the event. Zakaria Usman, Vice President Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), informed the meeting that the federation would host dinners for the foreign guest.
Masood Alam, Executive District Officer (EDO) Municipal Services CDGK suggested that in the exhibition exportable products should be given preference as compared to the item consumed locally. The meeting was also joined by Ali Ahmed Lund, Secretary Industries and various representatives from government and trade bodies.
