Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif called upon young doctors to supplement his efforts for the provision of modern treatment facilities to the poor masses and improvement of healthcare system. He was addressing a function held in honour of students of Allama Iqbal Medical College who had won medals in different examinations here on Tuesday, disclosed an official.
Senior Advisor to CM Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, MPA Dr Saeed Elahi, Dr Asad Ashraf, Secretary Health Fawad Hassan Fawad, Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences Hussain Mubashar Malik, Chairman Board of Management Mehboob Iqbal, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Professor Javed Akram, teachers and students were also present.
The CM also said like other sectors, politicians, bureaucracy and the persons concerned are responsible for the poor state of affairs in health sector. He made an appeal to young doctors to try to find ways and means for the improvement of healthcare system, as it would be a great service to the people of Punjab as well as the whole country.
According to him, a healthy society is essential for rapid progress and prosperity, as only healthy citizens can utilise their energies for national development with commitment and hard work. The government is determined to provide medical facilities to the common man at any cost.
Honesty, commitment and a sense of responsibility in those who are associated with health sector is essential for the improvement of this sector. No amount of funds will be enough unless doctors, paramedical staff and others play their role for the uplift of this sector.
The Chief Minister awarded Mian Muhammad Sharif Gold Medal and cash prize of Rs 100,000 to a student of Allama Iqbal Medical College, Muddasar Ali Roomi, for his outstanding performance. Similarly, he announced cash prizes of Rs 300,000, 200,000 and 100,000 for the top position holders of Allama Iqbal Medical College in examinations in 2008 and asked the college principal to send the names of the students to him. He also gave shields to members of the Board of Management of the college and organising committee of the convocation.
