Global peace mission (GPM) of Malaysia has set up a Kashmir Research Cell to conduct research on Kashmir dispute, to educate the Malaysians on genesis of Kashmir issue, its legal and ethical aspects, human right situation in the occupied valley and to garner support for just and peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute.
This was stated by the Secretary General, Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia, Mohamad Raimi Ab Rahim while delivering his speech at a seminar held to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday night. An E-mail message from Pakistan's High Commission in Kuala Lumpur said the seminar jointly organised by Global Peace Mission(GPM) and Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) in collaboration with Pakistan High Commission was attended by the cross sections of the civil society, including academia , students, teachers, business community and representatives of NGOs.
Acting High Commissioner, Dr Imtiaz A Kazi read the messages of the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan issued on the Kashmir Solidarity Day. In his address, he also elaborated upon the efforts of the government of Pakistan at various international forums as well as pursuing India to come to the table for an early and peaceful resolution of the long standing dispute in accordance with the aspiration of the Kashmiri people.
Professor Abdullah Ahsan and Professor Arif Zakaulah of International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) addressed the seminar. Secretary General ABIM Mohammad Raimi Abrahim said that the launching of Kashmir Research Cell in the Global Peace Mission is a step in the right direction, as it will help Malaysian students, researchers and scholars to understand the Kashmir dispute in its proper perspectives, and would motivate them to play their due share in global efforts to assist the Kashmiris to attain their inalienable right of self determination which has been denied to them by India.
Abdullah Al Ahsan, Professor, Department of History and Civilisation, International Islamic University of Malaysia while explaining the genesis of Kashmir issue said that India had usurped the right of self-determination of Kashmiris and had subjected them to worst form of subjugation and oppressions. He said that lasting peace in South Asia couldn't be attained without resolving the Kashmir dispute.
Professor Arif Zakaullah of International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) stressed the need to project the Kashmir dispute in the light of natural law, which takes its course bringing downfall of mighty empires when they suppress the rights of subjugated people for long time as in the case with India President GPM Mohammad Asri paid a vote of thanks at the conclusion of the session.
Earlier, documentary on Kashmir dispute highlighting the valiant struggle of Kashmiris to attain their right of self-determination was also shown. An exhibition was also held on the sidelines of the seminar wherein artefacts related to Kashmir and various publications on the subject were displayed.
