Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that no society can survive without justice, therefore the government has made threefold increment in the salaries of the subordinate judiciary so that the judges could have economic security and make every effort for the provision of inexpensive and prompt justice to the people.
He also said problems of the lawyers' community should be resolved on priority basis and the special committee headed by Deputy Speaker and comprising of representatives of the bar and officers of departments concerned should submit its recommendations within next 10 days, in this regard.
He was talking to a delegation of the Lahore Bar Association which met him under the leadership of President Lahore Bar Sajid Bashir here Friday, disclosed an official. Deputy Speaker Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan and office-bearers of the bar were also present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said the government is bearing an additional expenditure of Rs 1 billion due to the increment in the salaries of the subordinate judiciary and this increase has been made even without the demand of subordinate judiciary so that speedy justice could be made available to the people.
He also said national resources should be utilised only on the welfare of the masses and now it is the responsibility of subordinate judiciary to perform its duties with honesty and commitment so that immediate relief could be provided to the people. "The government is not spending funds on palatial buildings but is promoting the culture of austerity and utilising public money on the welfare and betterment of the masses.
Lawyers should play the due role for providing speedy and inexpensive justice to the people," Shahbaz articulated. He further said he is ready for the construction of a multi-storey building for the chambers of lawyers while their other demands including housing colony and medical facilities, will also be considered.
He said the committee should look into the demands of lawyers and submit its recommendations within 10 days so that the necessary measures could be taken. Earlier, Lahore Bar Association President Sajid Bashir, Vice President Syeda Lubna, General Secretary Qasim Hassan Buttar and other office-bearers apprised the Chief Minister of the problems of the bar and the lawyers.
