Auditors and senior auditors of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) staged a protest demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club here on Friday to press the government for acceptance of their demands. The protesters were holding placards, banners and they were chanting slogans in favour of their demands. Auditors Welfare Association Central Senior Vice President, Afzal Khan and President Lahore Chapter Muhammad Zafar Sherazi led the protest.
Afzal Khan while addressing the protestors said that all auditors and senior auditors of FBR were observing countrywide pen drop strike till acceptance of their legal demands. The participants were demanding framing of service rules and upgradation. They alleged that a summary had already been forwarded by the Chairman FBR, but the same was pending with the Ministry of Finance due to poor follow up by the Board, to undo the delay caused on part of the Board in their promotion for the last 14 years.
Participants said that all the auditors, senior auditors were highly qualified and professionally competent in the fields of audit, law, business management and commerce. Afzal Khan said industrious efforts and professional skills of auditors and senior auditors had resulted in notable enhancement in FBR's revenue and the same had been acknowledged by the management of the Board. They alleged that contrary to their sincere efforts, the FBR used to neglect these motivated human resources and continued promoting others at their cost during last 14 years.
Muhammad Zafar Sherazi appealed to the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry to intervene into the matter and directed the authorities concerned to redress the longstanding grievances of the auditors and senior auditors of the FBR.
