Major stock markets outside the United States ended on Friday.
EUROPE STOCKS EXCHANGE: European shares broke a four-day winning run on Friday after China surprised financial markets by raising banks' reserve requirements, though demand for defensive stocks helped limit losses.
China increased the level of reserves commercial banks must hold for the second time this year to curb lending and inflation, weighing on miners and banks. The FTSEurofirst 300 index of leading European shares closed 0.2 percent lower at 987.86 points.
FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 5500.39 points, down 3.54 or 0.06 percent on the day, winning 66.05 points on the week.
PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 3599.07 points, down 17.68 or 0.49 percent on the day, but up 35.31 points since last weekend.
ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 6416.2 points, up 12.78 or 0.20 percent, adding 151.87 points since last Friday.
MILAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: The FT IT All Share index closed at 21549.03 points, down 42.64 or 0.20 percent, climbing 213.95 points over the week.
SYDNEY STOCKS EXCHANGE: Australian stocks rose 0.2 percent and snapped a four week losing streak, as EU support for debt-laden Greece, strong US data and signs of healthy Chinese demand for resources underpinned sentiment. The S&P/ASX 200 index rose 7.8 points to 4,562.10 points. It climbed 0.9 percent on Thursday to close at a one week high. During the week the index added 48 points.
JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: South Africa's rand fell as much as 1.3 percent against the dollar, tracking a weaker euro and also in line with other emerging market currencies hit by monetary tightening measures from China. The All-share index was down 0.33 percent to 26,262.41 points, gaining 469.35 points over the week.
The All Gold index closed at 2253.63 points, up 27.78 or 1.25 percent, adding 95.2 points in the week. The Industrial index closed at 20815.07 points, down 78.59 or 0.38 percent, climbing 362.64 points since last Friday's close.
MUMBAI STOCKS EXCHANGE: India's currency, bonds and stock markets are closed on Friday for a local holiday. Trading resumes on Monday. The 30-share BSE share index rose 230.42 points to 16,152.59, climbing 1.45 percent on Thursday and taking gains in the week to 2.3 percent.
