Promoting curricular, co-curricular activities: minister hails private institutions for playing active role
Provincial Minister for Education, Mian Mujtaba Shujja-ur-Rehman has said that private educational institutions like Superior University are playing an active role in promoting curricular and co-curricular activities that is a healthy sign for the education system of the country.
He said that this university is rendering invaluable services by providing international standard facilities in the education sector. He expressed these views while talking to mediamen in the inaugural ceremony of sports and cultural festival held under the aegis of Superior University at the fortress stadium here on Saturday.
The ceremony was attended by renowned journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Shaista Pervez Malik, renowned columnist Atta-ur-Rehman and Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal. Mujtaba Shujja-ur-Rehman said that under the leadership of Dr Abdur Rehman, Superior University has gained prominent place in education sector by providing quality education especially in the subjects of commerce, computer sciences and law.
He said that this institution has made agreement of mutual co-operation with a UK university and Malaysian university with a view to providing opportunities to the Pakistani students to get benefits from international universities with less expenses.
Mujtaba Shujja-ur-Rehman said that Punjab government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif is taking revolutionary steps for the promotion of education sector. In this connection cash prizes of more than Rs 1 billion are being provided to the teachers for their training and their best performances in order to raise the standard of education of government schools.
Addressing the function, Rector Superior University Dr Abdur Rehman said that Superior Group of Colleges was set up in 2000 and educational facilities are being provided to fifteen thousand students and due to high standard of education, the institution has been given status of 'A' category by Higher Education Commission (HEC).
He said that PhD scholars are being trained in Azra Nahid Research Center, which is an international standard research center. He said that under the mutual co-operation with York S T John University, exchange of students and teachers would be made due to which Pakistani students will get degree of UK University on very low expenses.
Meanwhile, the minister said that co-curricular activities in the educational institutions help promote healthy activities in schools and colleges, which result in producing sportsman spirit in the students which prove helpful to face the future challenges in practical life.
He expressed this view while addressing provincial prize distribution ceremony of Chief Minister Punjab Speech and Essay Writing Competition. He said that Chief Minister Punjab encouraged the position holders of examinations and speakers and player students by holding sports and speech competition from markaz to provincial level. He said that more than 0.1 million students participated in speech and essay writing competitions and 50 thousand in sports. Next year fine arts, Naat and Qirat will also be included in these competitions.
