The probe committee, formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to evaluate Pakistan Cricket team's poor performance in Australian, held its second meeting at the National Cricket Academy on Saturday. Except from Wasim Akram, all members of the probe committee comprising Wasim Bari, Wazir Ali Khoja, Yawar Saeed, Zakir Khan, and Tafazzul Rizvi attended the meeting.
Wasim Akram could not attend the meeting due to personal reasons. Mohammad Yousuf, Intikhab Alam, Salman Butt, Shoaib Malik and Aaqib Javed appeared before the Committee and recorded their statements, while replying committee's queries. The Committee will continue its deliberations on Sunday as well.
Sources in the PCB told Business Recorder that Mohammad Yousuf, Intikhab Alam, and Shoaib Malik informed the members of the probe committee about their assessment regarding poor performance in the Australian tour. The Committee during Saturday's proceedings also raised queries about differences between Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Malik. Both the players replied the queries in support of their arguments, the sources added.
According to the sources, when Intikhab Alam informed the Committee that a lack of planning was seen in the Pakistan team on the tour, the members of the Committee enquired why he (Intikhab) had not played his due role in this regard. Intikhab in his report already submitted to PCB said cricket team lacked the temperament needed to win against the world champions Australia.
Alam took the responsibility for the disastrous tour and suggested that the PCB should ensure proper grooming of young players. The next generation of Pakistani cricketers should be groomed into world class fielders and trained in a way that they exhibit better temperament when representing their country at the highest level, Alam said. The Probe Committee will continue its deliberations on Sunday.
