With a view to promote affordable quality education for the less privileged and disenfranchised sections of society, the Punjab Education Foundation has decided to further extend its Education Voucher Scheme (E.V.S) in the districts of Kasur, Rawalpindi and Multan.
The voucher is redeemable against payment of fee in the private educational institutions. This scheme will enable the 4-17 years old children of poorest families to get free education in their nearest private schools. This was stated by Chairman Chief Minister's Taskforce on Elementary Education, Raja Muhammad Anwar while presiding over a meeting of education sector NGOs at his office, here Tuesday.
Concerned Punjab Education Foundation staff was also on the occasion who briefed the participants about PEF initiatives. While explaining the scheme Raja told: "All steps right from the selection of area for launching the scheme to voucher distribution and from selection of partner schools to quality assurance in the partner schools are well defined."
Under the scheme, 12000 students from five different areas of Lahore including Sukh Nehar, Fateh Garh, Daroga Wala, Warra Sattar, Harbanspura and Bhogiwaal are getting free education in 67 PEF-Partner schools while seven new suburban areas of Lahore are being included in phase-6 of E.V.S, he told.
Three thousand vouchers will be distributed in district Kasur's areas including Shahbaz Road, Kot Amirbaz Khan, Kot Sherbaz Khan and Ali Park. PEF will distribute one thousand EVS vouchers in each of Multan and Rawalpindi districts, he added. Rs 350 are provided on monthly basis for student's education and books are also provided free of cost.
The Foundation has since developed many initiatives to promote affordable quality education for the less privileged and disenfranchised sections of society and has introduced new, economical models in public private partnership. The initiatives have been widely appreciated and recognised at both the national and international level.
