Speakers at a ceremony termed the students as a beacon of light for the uplift of the country and urged them to fully concentrate on their studies. They were addressing an inaugural ceremony of students' magazine "Kisht-e-Nau 2008" held here at new senate hall of University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF).
Vice Chancellor, UAF, Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan presided over the ceremony while Editor-in-Chief, Daily Pakistan, Mujeeb-ur-Rehaman Shami was the chief guest and other renowned personalities from media were also present on the occasion. Addressing the participants, veteran journalist and SVP of APNS Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami said there is remedy of mistake in every field, but in judiciary and journalism there is no remedy of even a minor mistake, as it leaves long-term effects on the nations.
He underscored the need to focus on education, as there is not more than 5 percent youth can reach in the institutions of higher learning. He appreciated the efforts of UAF in brining forward the pleasant vistas of the society by extending its outreach programme in rural areas.
Speaking on the occasion seasoned anchorperson of electronic media person Kamran Shahid emphasised the need to root out such trends of journalism based on hypocrisy and sensationalism, which demoralises the nations and forced the economy and investment towards decline. Professor Dr Iqrar A Khan Vice Chancellor said that the technology transfer in the field of agriculture, which is a backbone of country, requires best communication skills.
Keeping in view the requirement, the university is setting up a career counselling centre costing Rs 10 million that would polish the communication skills of the students so that they could enjoy a bright future and would work for the development of the country, he added.
The vice chancellor pointed out that every year, one billion dollars is being spent on the students going abroad for higher education from our country. He said that the total budget of the higher education commission is 22 billion rupees. However, the more investment in the education sector can more flourish the sector.
