Water level in country's second biggest dam reservoir of Mangla is swiftly rising following the recent spell of rain and melting of snow at snow-clad catchments at the advent of summer, official sources told newsmen here on Tuesday. According to details, the current spell of rain and snowfall has considerably increased the water level in the dam by two feet raising its level from 1,040 to 1,042 feet.
The source further said the increase in water level would help in power generation and irrigation. The water storage in the reservoir would continue till it reaches a maximum level of 1,202 feet. It may be noted that after the completion of the ongoing raising project of the dam, the water could be stored in the reservoir to a level of 1,250 feet.
Experts here believe that current rise of water level in the dam would have positive impact on power generation besides bringing an increase in per acre yield of agricultural crops in the coming days in Punjab, Sindh and other parts of the country.
