Advisor to Prime Minister on Social Sector Begum Shehnaz Wazir Ali acknowledged the women role and efforts in creating an equitable society. Talking to a TV channel, in her message on the occasion of International Women's Day she said that gender inequality and poverty were main reasons of the economic crisis.
These problems could be eradicated by providing financial services to low-income women, she maintained, adding that women were the most affected by the recession. She said that all women have equal rights and PPP government also promote the manifesto of BB Shaheed for women rights. She congratulated women of Pakistan and said they are still making to free this world from prejudice and oppression.
She said women's empowerment is one of the top most priorities of the present government. She mentioned that government has constructed 0.1 billion, 80,000 schools in the country for the promotion of women education and one billion lady health workers are also performing their duties in urban and rural areas.
She said government has also started a women vocational training programmes through Benazir Income Support Programme. This programme facilitates the 2.7 billion poor women and pays them an amount of 1,000 rupees monthly. She also mentioned transition of Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2009 and legislation for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Bill, 2009 as landmarks in this direction.
