Chief Executive of National Productivity Organisation (NPO), Khawaja Muhammad Yousaf has said NPO will introduce Prime Minister Quality Award to encourage businessmen to bring the country's products to international standards.
He was speaking at the concluding session of a training workshop, part of Corporate Training programme, organised at Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) here on Sunday. Yousaf said that the NPO was revitalised with the sagacious productivity specialists and professional team to create productivity consciousness and to address the issues of manufacturing and service sector of Pakistan.
After the approval of the prime minister, the legal status of the NPO has been changed and the NPO is incorporated under the Companies Ordinance in June 2006. The NPO-Pakistan presently operates under the umbrella of the Ministry of Industries and Production and has established research and resource institution working with the support of Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) Tokyo-Japan.
The NPO is also working as a liaison Office of APO, which represents 20 Asian countries with the mandate to promote productivity and quality consciousness among the public and private sector organisations. Yousaf said that NPO was the only government institution, which was leading the Productivity Movement in Pakistan. Formed under a Convention on April 14, 1961, APO is the world's regional inter-governmental organisation dedicated to increase productivity in member countries in Asia and Pacific through mutual co-operation, thus accelerating economic development and better standard of living of its people.
The 20 member countries of the APO span the region and its work affects the lives of millions of people. Yousaf said that APO, a parent body of National Productivity Organisations (NPOs), offers a wide range of training courses, seminars, workshops and demonstration projects in its 20 member countries and the professionals and enterprises both from public and private sector can benefit from these programmes, free of cost.
In addition, the APO offers facilities to its member countries in Knowledge Management, Green Productivity, strengthening of small and medium enterprises and integrated community development.
