Increasing loss of life and scarcity of resources are major discouraging factors for Qaumi Lashkars, constituted to help security forces in war against terror, said Dr Murtaza Mughal, President Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) here on Sunday.
"They are getting weak and are losing heart due to increasing loss of life and least availability of the resources including weapons and other equipment", Dr Mughal said while talking to Noor Malik, Chief of Adezai Qaumi Lashkar.
Mughal said that these Lashkars, raised to counter terrorists, are losing heart, which could have a negative impact on ongoing war against terror. The government is giving mere assurances to the groups resisting terrorists in remote areas. Along with the assurances government should provide them modern equipment and facilities so that they could defeat the terrorists, he added. Militants who have ample resources on their disposal are the ultimate beneficiaries of the situation, he said.
Dr Mughal said that Adezai Qaumi Lashkar has suffered great losses while stopping the advance of terrorists for two years. Now, they are falling short of volunteers, arms, ammunition and finances, while terrorists having superior manpower, weaponry, and vehicles, etc are not only hitting them but also luring villagers, he added. People of Adezai are witnessing an increase in number of deaths, injured people and joblessness but they have not received any arms, ammunition, medicine, or ration from the authorities, he said.
Dr Mughal said that the Lashkars do not know which door to knock for material support. Lack of resources coupled with increasing insecurity and losses can force villagers to succumb to terrorists, he added.
