Fifteen high school children have participated in drawing competition "mother nature" and 21 students in essay writing "our natural environment and its conservation" of different age groups from the different schools situated in the surroundings of Taunsa Barrage Wildlife Sanctuary.
The essay writing and drawing competitions have been held to raise the environmental awareness. And a six-day training entitled "Sustainable living around Wetlands", has also been conducted recently at Jannu Village and about 198 male and 96 female participants attended the training from the five villages situated in the surroundings of Taunsa Barrage Wildlife Sanctuary.
The programmes Co-ordinator Dr Zulifqar Ali of UVAS said that 11 subjects were included in the training. As per details, University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences (UVAS) 'department of wildlife and ecology' has offered exciting opportunities for short training in a variety of areas for developing conservation economies for wetlands communities, and a short training programme is sponsored by 'Developing Partnership in Higher Education' (DelPHE), Programme.
While University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) has got 4th position overall in the "Intervarsity Wresting Championship 2010" held at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad on March, 14, 15 under the supervision of Higher Education Commission. As per details, "Intervarsity Wrestling Championship 2010" was organised by University of Peshawar and total nine universities participated in the championship from all over Pakistan.
As total five players participated in the championship, out of which two players Muhammad Junaid and Sheharyar Alvi bagged bronze medals. Three players Muhammad Attique, Farhat Tufail and Zia ul Hasnain stood at 4th position in the championship. UVAS director sports Rana Amjad Iqbal said that University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences has got 4th position in overall championship, adding director sports of other universities also commended the efforts of UVAS in winning 4th position in this championship.
