Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the problem of energy being faced by the country is on the top of Pak-US strategic dialogue's agenda. Talking to journalists after addressing the inauguration of Swan Bridge and Service Road projects adjacent to expressway in Rawalpindi, the Prime Minister said that first round of strategic dialogue was successful and the second round of the working groups' level talks are being held.
"We will take the nation into confidence over the strategic dialogue after the return of the delegations from US," he added. Gilani said that Pakistan and US have decided to go for strategic dialogue to enhance bilateral relations based on mutual trust.
To a question about India's concern over Pak-US strategic dialogue, Gilani said, "As far as Pakistan-US strategic dialogue is concerned, the US has good relations with India and we don't want those relations to be affected." The Prime Minister said Pakistan has its own relations with US and they (Indian) have theirs.
As far as Pak-India relations are concerned, he said, Pakistan wants good relations with all its neighbours including India and peace and stability in the region. He said the government was fully aware of the common man's problem and would deliver to them in the remaining three years as first two years passed in transition to democracy.
To a question about water issue with India, Prime Minister said the issue was taken at diplomatic level and would hopefully be resolved soon. To another question regarding Afghan government negotiations with militants, Gilani said his government had no knowledge of the talks and would only give Pakistan's view point when Afghan government would share with us the details.
Earlier, opening photo exhibition of two-year performance of the government at Pakistan National Council of Arts, he said that the display of images reminds us that much distance was covered since 2008 elections. This, he said, also a reminder as to how much the manifesto of the party tailored by late Benazir Bhutto was implemented. He said that his government was elected for five years and would be judged by the people on completion of its tenure in next general elections. The Prime Minister said that democracy would be allowed to work for strengthening of institutions.
"We are strengthening institutions and democracy," he said, adding that this is the process of evolution as people some time say there is judicial activism and some time say there is media activism. Gilani said that there was no quick fix to the problems and these would take some time to be resolved.
He said that major portion of Charter of Democracy (CoD) would be implemented with the approval of Constitutional Reform Package being finalised by Raza Rabbani-led committee. He expressed the hope that the package would be tabled in the Parliament with few days to implement the CoD.
