Minister for Environment Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has said the government is taking concrete measures to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Addressing a workshop here on Sunday, he said the new forest policy, which is in the final stages, would greatly help discourage the drastic cutting of trees, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan and the NWFP areas.
He said the clean drinking water policy has already been approved by the cabinet, which would ensure provision of clean drinking water for all by 2025. He said the consultative process with the stakeholders has been made a regular feature to evolve a joint strategy to address the problem of climate change.
The Environment Minister said the government has also involved the media as an important stakeholder in the efforts of environmental preservation.
