Pakistan Cleft Lip and Palate Association (PCLPA) is providing free reconstructive surgery services to the poor patients from all over the country.
Dr Ijaz Bashir, General Secretary of the Association, while talking to APP on Sunday said that PCPLA was not only providing examination and reconstructive surgeries, but also educating mothers on how to feed new born with cleft lip and cleft palate, holding seminars to create awareness among public about these congenital defects, training local doctors and paramedics on how to deal with these patients, speech therapy and dental treatment.
He said it is the first organisation for cleft lip and palate patient in Pakistan, with its head office at Bashir Hospital, Gujrat. He said British Plastic Surgeons with local doctors with their team visit the Bashir hospital regularly to carry out surgical procedures, all free of cost providing the latest techniques for treatment.
He said that the Association believes in reaching out to the under privileged people of the society and bringing back smiles on hopeless faces, preventing social isolation and increasing social interaction of patients.
Dr Bashir said that dedicated team of volunteers decided to work on an ambitious project of a cleft lip and palette institute and children's hospital based in Gujrat as there is no such facility between Lahore and Islamabad.
