The rupee showed mixed trend versus dollar on the local currency market on Tuesday amid increased demand for the greenback, experts said. On the interbank market the rupee gave up firmness in terms of dollar, losing 10 paisa for buying at 83.98 and losing seven paisa at 84.00 for selling, they said.
In the second Asian trade euro rose as investors pared some of their record short positions ahead of the end of the quarter and with sentiment also boosted by Greece's success in raising money from the debt market. The yen initially edged up against dollar as Japanese exporters repatriated their overseas earnings, but greenback buying for Japan's new fiscal year starting on Thursday also seemed to emerge and later cut yen's advance, traders said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee sheds its weakness, gaining 15 paisa against dollar for buying at 84.15 and picked up 10 paisa for selling at 84.35, dealers said. The rupee, however, trimmed its gain versus the euro, falling five paisa for buying and selling at Rs 113.45 and Rs 113.95, they added.
