Three private members bills were moved in the National Assembly for amendments and were later on referred to concerned Standing Committees. Pakistan Private Hospitals, Clinics and other Private Healthcare Units Regulatory Authority Bill, 2010, Foreigners Act 1946 (The Foreigners Amendment) Bill 2010 and Constitutional (Amendment) Bill were moved.
PML-N lawmakers - Nisar Tanveer, Tahira Aurangzeb, Mohammad Riaz Malik, Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan and Imtiaz Sultan Bukhari, jointly moved the health units bill with an aim to regularize the business of private sector's health institutions. Shireen Arshad Khan, another party member of PML-N, moved foreigners bill to bring amendments aimed at giving more protection to foreigners besides keeping vigilance of their activities in the country.
Marvi Memon of PML-Q moved the constitutional bill to seek amendments in various articles of the constitution that brought reforms in electoral process. These included changes in the process of appointing Chief Election Commissioner, increased number of the commission's members from four to six and formation of neutral caretaker government to hold general elections.
Earlier the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Faisal Karim Kundi summoned Managing Director of Pakistan International Airlines to make himself available on Wednesday to resolve the issue of flights on the complaints of some lawmakers from Sindh.
Minister for Labour and Manpower, Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah responded affirmatively to points of order raised by some members of the assembly regarding unjust fares of PIA. Shah agreed that PIA's fare, for its flight service of Sukkur to Islamabad, is higher than their service from Karachi to Islamabad. The minister was apprised that the fare from Karachi to Islamabad is twelve thousand rupees, while from Sukkur to Islamabad it is seventeen thousand rupees.
He said the matter would be taken up with the Defence Minister. Shah was also apprised that PIA will be starting flight service from Islamabad and Sukkur via Multan and a direct flight, with regard to this route, would also be launched soon.
On a point of order, former Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan and MNA from Chitral - Shahzada Mohiuddin urged the government to ensure provision of required funds for the Loweri Tunnel project aimed at facilitating the Korean contractors to complete the mega project on time. Minister for Environment pointed out that the green belt in front of parliament building has been badly damaged due to cars parking, and urged for an alternative place for this purpose.
