Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, along with Chief Justice High Court of Sindh on Sunday paid a surprise visit to sub-jail in Tando Adam, district Sanghar in Sindh province.
He met all the under trial prisoners and heard their problems individually and issued directives to the concerned authorities for expeditious disposal of their cases. He released on bail some of the under trial prisoners who are facing trial under minor offences.
In some such cases, he directed the DPO Sanghar to redress their grievances and examine genuineness of their cases and ensure that justice should be-done.
He took serious view of un-hygienic condition in the sub jail, scarcity of water and poor quality of food provided to the under trial prisoners. Most of the prisoners complained of their false implication.
The CJP warned the jailer to provide quality food and facilities to the under trial prisoners according to the jail manual and improve hygiene in the jail premises.
The office bearers of Sindh Bar Association and District Bar Association Hyderabad, Qazi Abdul Sattar, Member Sindh Bar Association, Ambar Mehmood Nizamani, President Sanghar Bar Association, Noor-ul-Rafique N. Qadri, President Bar Association Zahoor Ahmed Baloch, General Secretary High Court Bar Association Hyderabad, Ayaz Hussain Tarique, District Bar Association Hyderabad, Abdul Rehman Shaikh, member High Court Bar Association Hyderabad, Waseem Shah, Treasurer High Court Bar Association, Rehana Gujar, and advocate Anwar Jumani paid a courtesy call on Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry at the Circuit House, Hyderabad and discussed matters of common interest.
They declared before the Chief Justice that they would cooperate with Judiciary on the matter of common interest, rule of law and work for independence of judiciary.
They appreciated the role of judiciary during the constitutional crises. They also appreciated the process of expeditious disposal of the cases in accordance with the spirit of the directives embodied in the National Judicial Policy -2009.
The delegates informed the Chief Justice about the problems being faced by them and requested provision of Court Complexes. They also asked for the appointment of Judges in various categories of the courts to expedite the early disposal of the pending cases.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan assured them of his full support and co-operation in addressing their issues. He told them that their problems would be discussed in forthcoming National Judicial Policy and underlined the need of effective bench and bar co-operation in the process of dispensation of justice.
