The Standing Committee on Special Initiatives shows dissatisfaction about the performance of Ministry of Special Initiatives to furnish the whole record of its correspondence regarding CDWI plants with provinces within seven days. The Committee met here Tuesday under the chairmanship of Engineer Usman Khan Tarakai, for a briefing on the ministry and to discuss a Calling Attention Notice for non-provision of clean drinking water throughout the country.
The Federal Minister and Secretary Special Initiatives briefed the Committee about the organisational structures of the ministry. The Secretary said the ministry was created on November 3, 2008 with 73 posts. However, 59 officers and officials are working in the ministry. The Secretary informed the Committee regarding the installation of clean drinking water plants. He said 6626 water plants were approved in PC-1 at the cost of Rs 7,871.74 million, which was later revised to Rs 15,843 million due to increase in number of plants.
He further stated it was decided that Federal Government would provide funds and execution of the project would be made by the provincial governments. The committee directed that no further funds should be released to the provinces against the CDWP till receipt of their performance report. The Project Director Balochistan informed the Committee that 567 plants were approved for the province out of which 358 plants had been installed.
The Committee decided to hold its next meeting on April 23 and directed all provincial project directors and co-ordinators to attend the same. The meeting was attended by Tariq Mehmood Bajwa, Ghulam Ali Nizamani, Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir, Mudassar Qayyum Nahra, Sabeen Rizwi, Ms Mamoona Hashim, Safyan Yousaf, Syed Tayyab Hussain MNAs and Minister of Special Initiatives besides the officers from Ministry of Special Initiative.
