7th International Cardiovascular and Thoracic conference concluded at a firm determination for achieving professional excellence through efficient utilisation of indigenous resources to explore cost effective remedies of international standards to the cardiovascular and thoracic diseases in the country.
The concluding ceremony of the conference was addressed by Professor Riaz Anwar Khan, Professor Arif Rahman, Professor Jawad Sajid Khan and Professor Aamir Bilal. The 4-day 7th Biennial International Conference on vascular & thoracic surgeries arranged by Pakistan Society of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons (PSCTS) to share experiences and skills among the experts and to explore new venues for improvement of the field.
Renowned cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons, researchers and professionals attended the conference. Professor Arif Rahman, President, PCTS in his concluding remarks said that continuous medical education was necessity of the current era. Terming the conference a big success, he said that it had stimulated the participants and would help them to set out high target of professional excellence.
He lauded the efforts of Professor Riz Anwar for organising the well arranged and largely attended conference. He advised for maintaining close collaboration among various cardiac centres of the country to share experiences and improve skills. He also denoted the young surgeons to fix high goals for themselves to avoid stagnation and decline. He asked medical experts to compile suggestions for chalking out strategy for the promotion of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery in the next ten years.
Convenor of the conference, Professor Riaz Anwar Khan termed the event as a success despite great security threats. "It was the firs ever largely attended conference in the history of the society", he remarked. Professor Amir Bilal while giving salient features of the scientific session said that during the conscious effort, different aspects of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery had been focused properly.
"During the two-day elaborated medical education session. 81 research papers and 20 updates were presented", he maintained. H appreciated interest and enthusiasm of young researchers in the academic session. Professor Jawad Sajid Khan hoped that people would benefit from the out comes of the conference. "We enjoyed and learnt a lot", he remarked. The expert suggested proper attention towards improvement of Paediatric cardiac surgery and perfusion.
Earlier, in the general body meeting of the society, new president of the society was elected. Professor Arif Rahman was elected as president for next session. The body stressed the need for reliance on indigenous rather than depending on foreign. Efforts of Professor Riaz Anwar were lauded for excellent arrangements during the conference on the occasion.
