South Korean Company Sambu has threatened to stop work at Lowari Tunnel if the government fails to release Rs 672 million outstanding dues, Business Recorder has reliably learnt. Sources in the Ministry of Communication revealed that a meeting was held here on Friday with Federal Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan in the chair, in which the representatives of Sambu participated.
Senior officials of the ministry and National Highway Authority were also present. Sources said the construction work on the much-awaited Lowari Tunnel would now be hanging in balance. "Sambu has been assigned the work, which is expected to be completed at a cost of Rs 8 billion," sources said, adding that 50 percent work is still remaining. Completion of the project is longstanding demand of the people. The project will also establish communication links with Tajikistan, Dushanbe and other Central Asian states, sources added.
