Pakistan Mutthida Kisan Mahaz (PMKM) has urged Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and all the participants of the ongoing energy conference to immediately start construction of hydel power projects and thar coal power projects without further delay to generate cheaper electricity.
In an open letter written to all the participants, PMKM Chief Muhammad Ayub Khan Mayo said that the government should also finalise the agreements with Iran for purchasing 5200 MW of power at cheaper rates. He also demanded that electricity tariff should not be increased on the directions of IMF, World Bank or US otherwise the Pakistani masses would go on civil disobedience.
In the letter, PMKM Chief further stated that Pakistani water and coal resources should not be handed over to IMF, World Bank or the US to save domestic, commercial and agricultural consumers of Pakistan from higher power rates. He also claimed that Pakistan's power generation capacity was 21,600 MW and the prevailing shortage crisis was artificial to pave the way for the rental power projects.
PMKM also said that existing thermal power plants to get rid of prevailing loadshedding within six months. The letter has also drawn the attention of the participants towards various approved power projects and called to start work on them immediately.
