Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) has formulated the policy for acquiring electricity from private sector to minimise load shedding in the wake of extraordinary power shortage in the country. Under this policy, Pepco has contracted 328 megawatt RFO, gas, Bagasse and Biogas filled captive power from textile and sugar industries.
A spokesman of the Pepco told newsmen here on Monday that in addition to the above, Pepco was in process of executing contracts for another 50 megawatt electricity and was negotiating an additional 206 megawatts of such power with the ultimate object of acquiring every megawatt of captive power and Co-Gen Power within its area of franchise.
He further revealed that in addition to the above, Nepra had determined and announced up front power tariff for Co-Gen Power Generation on Bagasse and Coal through the sugar industries.
The spokesman pointed out that Pepco invited the entire industrial sector, particularly the textile and sugar industries, to come forward and join hands with Pepco during these days of power crunch and save the nation from the misery caused by long duration load shedding.
The spokesman further said that Pepco had made arrangements for acquiring power from the private sector and announced that captive power available would be immediately connected to the system. Giving other details for acquiring and supplying the power, the Pepco spokesman said acquired power would need interconnection for more than one kilometre line and could be fed to the existing Disco/commercial customers on least cost basis.
"Captive power required heavy investments for interconnection, but has substantial generation capacity to meet the expenses likely to be incurred." He said the captive power producers should send the details of their plants in order to firm-up/complete the directory of captive power plants in the country.
