Trading community here Tuesday observed shutter-down to mourn the killing of 24 people, including a police official and a local leader of Jamaat-i-Islami in a suicide attack on a political rally in busy Qissa Khwani Bazaar.
The Qissa Khwani blast was second explosion occurred on the same day as in the mid of the day the terrorists targeted minor schoolgoing children of Police Public School on another busy Jamrud Road, near Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar.
The blast claimed the life of one child and 11 other injured in the incident. The trading community of Peshawar has announced one-day shutter down strike in the district and three-day strike for Qissa Khwani bazaar against the bomb blast during rally of Jamaat-i-Islami and the killing of the two dozens people, including some minors.
Major trading centres included Shaheen Bazaar, Meena Bazaar, Kochi Bazaar, Kohati Gate, Peepal Mandi, Ashraf Road, Dalgaran, Misgaran, Qissa Khwani and Khyber Bazaars and currency & jewellery markets at Chowk Yadgar of the city remained closed and were giving a deserted look. In the areas where partial shutter down was observed were also lacking traditional hustle and bustle and very few people were found roaming in the bazaars.
The provincial government has announced a three-day mourning and payment of compensation to the families of the victims of the bloody incident. Qissa Khwani Bazaar, the place of the incident will remain closed for a period of three-day. The workers of the Jamaat-e-Islam were staging rally against power load shedding and after the end of the procession and were dispersing when a suspected teenage suicide bomber exploded explosive material tied around his body near the vehicle of the police officials.
The explosion resulted in the killing of 23 people and leaving 30 other injured. The injured were also included two former members of the National Assembly, Shabir Ahmad Khan and Sabir Hussein Awan.
The janaza prayers of the deceased deputy district Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, Haji Dost Mohammad, alias Haji Gul was offered at Eidgah, Charsadda Road. A large number of people, including political leaders and general public attended. Similarly, the Namaz-e-Janaza of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Gulfat Hussein and three police cops was held at Malik Saad Police Lines, Peshawar. The people in general and business community of Peshawar have taken a sigh of relief from the terrorist incidents witnessed by the city during the three-month period of October to December 2009.
