Schemes worth Rs 135 billion being completed in Southern Punjab

Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa has said that government has taken measures for the development of far-flung and remote areas of the province besides poverty alleviation and attainment of the objective of economic development.
He said that development schemes worth Rs 135 billion are being completed in Southern Punjab districts and these are in addition to annual development programme. He said that some of these schemes would be completed this year and others by next year. He said Rs 2 billion have been allocated for urban renewal programme for intermediate cities with the view to promoting their economy and making them preferred choice for living and working.
He said that Punjab economic opportunity programme (PEOP) has been launched at a cost of Rs 7,530 million in Bahawalpur, Bhawalngar, Lodhran and Muzafargarh. He said that tribal areas development programme has been approved at a cost of Rs 3380.940 million for community and social development. He expressed these views while presiding over a high level meeting held to review the pace of development projects regarding Chief Minister's Southern Punjab Development Programme.
The meeting was attended by Secretaries of Local Government, Housing & Physical planning, Health, School Education, C&W, Tevta, Irrigation, Livestock, project director and other Government officials. Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa said that in order of improve the means of transportation, road network was being improved in far-flung areas so that masses might get ample opportunity of economy development and government has chalked out the comprehensive plan to achieve the targets.
He said that elected representatives have been involved to point out the development schemes in their representative constituencies for the uplift of socio-economic status of the people concerned. Meanwhile, chairing another meeting senior advisor to CM directed the Irrigation and Chashma barrage authorities to take immediate measures to meet the water logging issue in Taunsa areas. The meeting was attended by Commissioner DG Khan, high-ranking officials of Irrigation & Power Department and Chashma Barrage.
