The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) on Saturday successfully finalised deal for the import of 200,000 tons of white sugar and finally awarded another tender to the Dubai based lowest bidder. TCP opened a sugar tender for the import of 200,000 tons on Saturday at head office. In response to TCP's tender some five pre-qualified bidders participated in the tender and submitted bid bond as per TCP's requirement.
Finally TCP has awarded tender for 100,000 tons of white sugar at the rate of 556.80 dollar per ton cost and freight (C&F) in break bulk and 100,000 tons in containerised at 551.80 dollar tons (C&F) to Al-Khaleej sugar co. Dubai being the lowest, conforming to all technical specifications of PSQCA and tender terms and condition. According to TCP, the rates received in tender are in consonance to international market sugar prices.
Following the economic co-ordination committee (ECC decision) to import 1.2 million tons, so far TCP has finalised contract for the import of 575,000 tons of sugar, which has started arriving and so far over 50,000 tons of sugar has arrived in the country while the arrivals around 68,000 tons are expected by May 20.
Sources said that TCP has already plans for the import of remaining 600,000 tons and three more international tenders for the sugar import are being opened during this month, next tender would be opened on next Saturday May 15, for a quantity of 200,000 tons. In addition two more tenders will be opened on May 22 and 29 for a quantity of some 200,000 tons. It may be mentioned here that TCP has already announced that it will not entertained offers of non-pre-qualified bidder to make serious efforts for the import of sugar.
