Jamaat-i-Islami Chief, Syed Munawar Hasan has said elections can only bring about positive change in the society when there is rule of law. "In the current socio-political conditions when the country is being run by plunderers and mafias there is no possibility of a real change through ballot," he said while addressing the participants of the JI workshop held at Mansoora on Thursday.
The JI chief said that the electorate voted for the tyrants who continued the system of exploitation and injustice. The ruling elite, the Opposition, the secular lobby, and the civil and the military, all were serving the US agenda, he said. "The JI is a democratic and revolutionary party which wants to bring about a change through peaceful means," he said adding that the present corrupt and incompetent government was advancing the US agenda through brutal force.
"The US with its evil designs is making a mockery of our independence and sovereignty by issuing directions to our rulers and the armed forces, and killing innocent citizens in drone attacks but the rulers are silent," he said. He asked the JI workers to fully understand the Islamic system based on the Holy and the Sunnah the JI wanted to establish in this country and mould public opinion in its favour through hard work.
In a press statement issued on Thursday Jamaat-i-Islami Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch lauded the Lahore High Court (LHC) decision that set aside the appointment of the capital city police chief. He advised the rulers to accept the independence of the judiciary with open heart.
