The bye-elections on two National Assembly (NA-178 Muzaffargarh and NA-167 Vehari) and one Punjab Assembly (PP-259-Faisalabad) seats are being held in Punjab on Saturday (today) for which all necessary arrangements have been finalised.
On the request of the Returning Officers concerned, Election Commission of Pakistan Officers has called in Rangers for holding the polls in free, fair and transparent manner. Police has also adopted foolproof security arrangements for holding the polls in an impartial manner. As many as 52 candidates from different political parties as well as independents are in the run for two seats of National and one seat of Punjab Assemblies.
It may be noted that all these seats fell vacant after resignation by the former legislators who won last general elections on bogus academic degrees. The former Punjab Governor Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar is contesting the election from NA-178. Jamshed Dasti of PPP is contesting against him and tough fight is expected.
