Former Pakistan captain Younus Khan has signed to play for Surrey as an overseas player until mid July, coming in as a replacement for Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla. He will become Surrey's second overseas player for the Friends Provident T20 competition alongside Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds and the club has confirmed that Chawla has not been granted permission to play county cricket and that negotiations with West Indian Brian Lara have not reached agreement.
"I am confident that bringing a world class player such as Younus Khan to Surrey will have a very positive effect on the side," website cricdb.com quoted Surrey's Professional Cricket Manager Chris Adams, as saying. "As well as benefiting from the weight of runs we hope he will bring, we have a number of young batsman who will doubtless benefit greatly from being able to train and play alongside him.
In terms of the FPt20, the experience and skills that saw him lead Pakistan to the ICC World Twenty20 title in 2009 are sure to greatly help us in our pursuit of the trophy." Younus was banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier this year for his role in "infighting". He however had appealed against his ban and underwent three hearing before the PCB constituted one-man tribunal.
