Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Federal Advisor on Textile, Government of Pakistan has taken up the matter of delivery of 263,000 cotton bales (170kg) purchased by Pakistani importers and suspended by Indian authorities against their new ban imposed on the export of cotton.
On the instructions of Federal Advisor Textile Dr Baig, Minister Trade High Commission for Pakistan, New Delhi, has taken up the matter with the Joint Secretary Saarc, Ministry of Commerce, New Delhi, requesting Textile Commissioner Mumbai, to expedite the process of revalidation of the contracts to resume export at the earliest (last date for submission of applications by the cotton exporters for revalidation was 30-04-2010 as per Press Note of April 20, 2010 issued by the Textile Commissioner). And allow shipment of all orders of cotton export in the pipeline to Pakistan (which were contracted prior to the suspension of the cotton export registration). All the pending consignments may be exported within the next few weeks.
Dr Ikhtiar Baig said it is imperative to have this cotton in Pakistan before the new crops of cotton which will be in the market by July or August 2010. Dr Baig said the shipment and delivery of 263,000 cotton bales will ease the shortage of cotton in the textile industry of Pakistan and would also stabilise cotton prices in Pakistan.-PR
