Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa has said that agriculture is backbone of economy and irrigation water plays vital role in progress of agri-sector as well as uplift of farmers. He directed that canal water should be made available to the farmers according to their requirements.
He said that inadequate irrigation water is available due to increase in cultivable areas, change in cropping pattern, siltation of existing reservoirs, inadequate canal capacities, raising cost of tubwell water due to high cost of POL and electricity. He said canal water is not available according to requirement of the farmers especially in tale areas.
He expressed these views during a briefing on irrigation water given to MPAs at Assembly Chambers. Provincial Minister Muhammad Iqbal Chunnar, MPAs Chaudhry Mumtaz Ahmed Jaja, Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique, Rana Ejaz Noon, Atif Hussain Mazari, Mehar Ejaz Ahmed, Haji Zulfiqar Ali, Muhammad Safdar Gill, Mian Fida Hussain, Colonel Naveed Iqbal Sajid (Retd), Engineer Javed Ahmed Dhillon attended the briefing.
