Closing stock market indices
Major stock markets outside the United States ended on Thursday.
FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 6142.15 points, up 151.77 or 2.53 percent.
PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 3600.57 points, up 106.65 or 3.05 percent.
ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 6194.18 points, up 61.52 or 1.00 percent.
MILAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: The FT IT All Share index closed at 21162.43 points, up 532.85 or 2.58 percent.
SYDNEY STOCKS EXCHANGE: Australian shares fell 0.9 percent to end at session lows as shaky investors sold banks ahead of influential company earnings results and a keenly awaited verdict on European bank health. The S&P/ASX 200 index ended down 38 points to the day's low at 4,374.7, after a 0.2 percent gain on Wednesday.
JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: South Africa's stocks gained nearly two percent and the rand extended against the dollar to over one percent after the central bank left interest rates unchanged. The All-share index closed at 28274.03 points, up 440.51 or 1.58 percent. The All Gold index closed at 2371.49 points, up 9.7 or 0.41 percent, while the Industrial index closed at 23142.15 points, up 339.3 or 1.49 percent.
