Faisal Karim Kundi, Acting Speaker, National Assembly has said that present democratic set-up believed in freedom of expression and has taken numerous steps for the independence of media. He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of media persons from D. I. Khan, which called on him in Parliament House on Tuesday.
The Acting Speaker asked the media to supplement efforts of the government in fight against the terrorism and extremism, adding that media is the fourth pillar of the State and is playing a role of bridge between government and masses. He said that media has always played a significant role in restoration of democracy and in highlighting the problems being faced by the marginalized segment of society.
He informed the delegation that the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa, Amir Haider Khan Hoti has already issued directives to land revenue department for the allotment of 137 kanals land for Journalist colony in D.I.Khan. He said that he was in contact with provincial government in this regard. Kundi assured them that after completing necessary procedural requirements the developmental work on the project would be started soon.
Discussing the status of developmental projects in D. I. Khan, he said that the present government was taking keen interest to bring the rural and remote areas at par with the developed areas and provision of the basic amenities to masses at their thresholds, as Rs 42 crore has been allocated for the Chashma uplift cannal project and Rs 30 million for renovation and expansion of D. I. Khan airport. Senator Jehangir Badar, Secretary General, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) was also present on the occasion.-PR
