Sindh Minister for Environment and Alternative Energy, Sheikh Muhammad Afzal Sunday said civil defence department should be reorganised and reactivated to help the people in the hour of need. In a statement issued here on Sunday, the minister said offices of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), be made functional in all provinces of the country.
Keeping in view the prevailing flood situation in the country, arrangements should be made to cope with natural calamities including, earthquake, heavy rains and flood, he said. Afzal stressed that officials of NDMA should be prepared on war-footing basis to handle any untoward situation. Groups of youths and senior citizens should also be formed in different areas to help the nation.
He observed that people were imparted training of civil defence in the past in educational institutes and at the community level, which proved to be very useful in the hour of need. He further said relief activities, in case of natural calamities, be carried out in more effective and proper manner.
