Additional Secretary Planning Schools Education Department, Izhar Ahmed has said that Rs 40 billion is needed to provide infrastructure to 63,000 schools of the province. Whereas Rs 4 billion have been allocated for the provision of infrastructure of the schools.
He was talking to media at the workshop on Young Champions Projects for Girls Education of Lahore District organised by Jahandad Society for Community Development (JSCD) and Unicef on Thursday. He also said that providing education is the top priority of the government. He said that there would be school councils, which would consist of 10 members to look after the schools matters.
He also said that the government is working on the project of Danish Schools for providing quality education to the poorest of the poor. He said Danish schools in Chistian, Rahim Yar Khan and Hasil Pur will be functional in October and the teachers in these schools will be appointed on merit and will be paid high salaries. He also said that these schools will start from class 6 to class 10th.
While briefing the media President JSCD Dr Yasmin Rashid said that their study was based on the schools in 20 selected union councils of Lahore, which were located in the suburbs of Lahore. She said that there were total 5,285 children in these union councils out of which 3031 were female and 2094 were male. While describing the causes that why children were not going to schools she said that majority of them can't afford to go to school. She also said that other reasons include long distances of the schools and corporal punishment. She demanded that government should allocate 6 percent of the GDP to the education and health sector.
