Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Friday again directed medical board to finalise its report into death of an under trail prisoner in Adiala jail and furnish it by August 13. CJ passed this order after it was informed him by forensic histopathologist, Punjab that it had not received viscera's of deceased Ameer Khan so far.
On it, CJ remarked that it is unfortunate that lies were made before court on last hearing when superintendent central jail had told that viscera's have been sent to office. Law officer, however, said viscera's have been sent to histopathologist on August 05. After law officer's statement the court adjourned hearing till August 13.
CJ was hearing a suo motu notice against death of prisoner in Adiala jail Rawalpindi allegedly by torture of officials. On previous hearing, Superintendent jail appeared before the court and stated that medical board is of consensus opinion that in presence of traumatic injuries to deceased cause of death would be determined only after receipt of reports from chemical examiner and histopathologist Punjab. On it, the court ordered law officers to direct chemical examiner and histopathologist to submit their reports.
CJ had taken notice on a news item appeared in a English daily, which stated that officials at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi tortured to death a prisoner Hameed, 18, (who was later identified as Ameer Khan, 24) who was arrested on charges of drug paddling. It was reported that relatives of the deceased marched to DHQ hospital where they were not allowed to see the dead body. Family of the deceased claimed that their boy was arrested by police for failing to provide his identity card. They said Ameer was a labourer and was turning home when police arrested him.
