Federal Population Welfare Minister, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that government was monitoring prevailing flood situation in the country and will fulfil its responsibilities in this regard. Talking to media persons on Saturday after visiting the flood affected areas of Chaprar.
She said a detailed survey would be carried out in Bujwat and Chaprar areas for assessing damages to crops and property of dwellers and hopefully, survey would be undertaken after floodwater recedes in the affected villages. Dr Firdous Awan said government would compensate the affectees in the light of survey of damages to crops and property.
She said the government was making strenuous efforts to cope with the prevailing flood situation in the country, adding it was too difficult for human beings to fight with natural disaster. The government was utilising all resources and channels for protecting the flood affectees on top priority basis throughout the country.
On the occasion, high ups from the irrigation department informed the minister that discharge of water at Head Marala was being monitored by Irsa through the telemetry system recently installed by Wapda. Moreover, irrigation department staff was vigilantly monitoring flood in River Chenab, they said.
DDOR informed the minister that district administration had already adopted several measures to cope with any eventuality during rains and flood in Sialkot. He said relief camps had been established at different points, including Bujwat and Chaprar areas, while health and rescue-1122 teams had also been deputed in these areas. All protective bunds were being monitored day and night in the district, he added. Earlier, the minister also witnessed breach of protective bund, built for the protection of overhead bridge on River Tavi in Chaprar. She directed the concerned authorities to repair the damaged bund immediately.
