Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Monday set up relief camp in its head office as well as regional offices to help the affected people of flood hit areas. Vice-Chancellor AIOU, Professor Dr Nazir A Sangi inaugurated the relief camp in the head office and constituted a five-member committee to execute the flood relief activities.
The committee will be headed by Director Institute of Educational Technology, Mohammad Qasim Haider and it comprises the members of AIOU' Officers Welfare Association (OWA), Academic Staff Association (ASA) and Employees Welfare Association (EWA). Talking to APP, Qasim Haider said that relief activities have been started on the directives of Nazir A Sangi.
AIOU being a largest university has a wide network in the country and it will utilise all possible means to help the people in this natural calamity. The university management has mobilised university' 50,000 tutors, 650,000 students, 1500 staff members of head office and officials of regional offices to join hands and help the flood affectees in this critical time.
The relief camps have started collecting eatables, beddings, medicines, water coolers and cash amount from today and students and teachers of the university are coming forward to contribute for this noble cause. The cash amount collected by the relief camps would be deposited in 'Prime Minister Relief Fund' while the relief goods will be handed over to the affectees, he informed. AIOU team will visit the affectees in the areas including Nowshera, Rajanpur and Shikarpur and hand over the relief aid to the affectees, Qasim said. The university staff members will also contribute their one-day salary for the flood relief activities.
