Foreign Minister, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi received Liu Jian, Ambassador of People's Republic of China to Pakistan, here on Tuesday. Qureshi congratulated Jian on his appointment and recalled the longstanding relations between the two countries, which have matured into a strategic partnership covering all spheres.
The minister briefed Chinese Ambassador on the severity of floods and appreciated Chinese assistance for the affectees. He also appreciated the country's assistance for Attabad Lake affectees. He apprised the ambassador about the rescue and relief requirements.
Reciprocating, Chinese Ambassador said his country highly valued relations with Pakistan. China was saddened to know the damages caused by the recent floods, and was one of the first countries to have sent relief assistance worth RMB 10 million. Officials of Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, also, donated in the relief operations, he added.
On the occasion, Chinese Ambassador handed over Rs 1.495 million in cash on behalf of Association of Chinese Enterprises and oversees Chinese in Pakistan to the Foreign Minister for flood relief assistance. Qureshi informed the ambassador that due to severe floods in Pakistan, he would not be able to visit Shanghai Expo 2010. He assured the ambassador of full co-operation during his tenure in Pakistan and wished him success in his endeavours.-PR
