Industrialists and businessmen met in different cities on Wednesday to extend maximum support in cash and kind to those who have been uprooted by the devastating floods in all the four provinces. They expressed concern over the loss of human lives, destruction of property and lifelong savings of people who have been saved. In the efforts to alleviate the sufferings of poor and needy, they have decided to join hands with government and contribute in dealing with calamity.
Former President of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Iftikhar Ali Malik appealed to the countrymen to come forward and give their Zakat and contribute generously towards the relief operations, and assured that funds received by the Chambers and Federation would be disbursed in a transparent manner.
He was particularly concerned about the well being of industrial workers who had been rendered homeless and assured that the members of business community would not leg behind in coming to their rescue. Malik said the situation was grim as not only people had suffered, but industrial activity and agriculture had also been affected badly. The devastation caused by floods would arrest economic growth, which the country couldn't afford, he added.
He assured that industrialists and businessmen would put their best foot forward in meeting the challenge the country was faced with today as their survival was linked with the survival of common man, peasants and industrial workers who were the backbone of industrial activity.
