Peoples Primary Health Care Initiative (PPHI) has so far treated over 0.145 million patients in the flood-affected areas of Sindh province during the last two weeks. While some 9,000 women and children have been vaccinated under the programme, said an official statement Monday.
The PPHI set up at least 102 Basic Health Units and 89 Special Medical Camps, which are working round the clock to cater to health-related problems in the flood-hit areas, it said in its Flood Activities Report (July 29 to August 13, 2010). These Special Medical Camps are being managed by 591 PPHI medical and paramedical staff, which is in addition to EPHI 12 mobile camps that are in hired vehicles with medical staff on board in Sukkur, Dadu, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad and Larkana districts.
According to Programme Director PPHI Dr Riaz Ahmed Memon, in these Special Medical Camps about 0.145 million patients so far had been treated, 9,000 women and children vaccinated, 23 snake-bite cases and 25 dog-bite cases were treated. He said these patients were apart from the regular OPD of other routine health facilities, which PPHI provided to over 0.45 million patients during last three weeks. Further, during the period mentioned, PPHI lady doctors also carried out 12 deliveries in Relief Camps of Dadu, Khairpur, Ghotki and Kashmore. One D&C was also conducted amongst a patient at a flood relief camp near BHU Qadir Dino Shah in district Thatta.
