Businessmen and people from different walks of life on Friday met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and presented him cheques of Rs 28 million for the relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims.
Olympia Group Chairman Mian Munir Mannoo presented a cheque for Rs 10 million to the Chief Minister; Asif Kamal of Builders Association Rs 7.9 million; Shahid Hussain of Services Industries Rs 2.5 million; Tariq Sufi of Sufi Group Rs 2 million; Jinnah Welfare Committee Chairman Mian Mehboob Iqbal Rs 1.5 million; Saif Group Rs 2.5 million; Joy Enan Company Faisalabad Rs 1 million and Mehwish Azmat Rs 0.5 million.
The Chief Minister thanked them for the donations and said that the flood-hit people are waiting for their much-needed help. He said those helping the people in distress deserve much praise and it is the need of the hour that the whole nation stood up and donated generously for the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims. He said that the devastation wrought by floods is unprecedented and he himself has observed the damage during his visits to the affected areas.
He said that the Punjab government stands by flood victims and all resources are being utilised for their relief and rehabilitation. He said that Provincial Disaster Management Authority has been fully mobilised and concerted efforts are being made in collaboration with other departments and people from different walks of life for the relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
He said the rich should come forward and actively take part in the rehabilitation process of the affectees. He said that relief camps have been set up in flood affected areas where they are being provided food and medical facilities. He said that the rich could also own relief camps and provide food to the affectees under their supervision.
He said that in this testing time the nation has to confront the challenge collectively and display the same spirit of sacrifice and selflessness which was displayed at the time of creation of Pakistan. The donors praised the Chief Minister for his efforts for relief and rehabilitation of the flood-hit people, saying Allah will reward him for his efforts to mitigate the sufferings of the affected people.
