PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed on Saturday urged all the rich politicians with hefty bank accounts to donate generously for relief and rehabilitation to flood affectees.
"Rich politicians should donate generously in the Islamic spirit of charity, especially in the holy month of Ramazan, to assist the flood victims. If they fail in this test, they will not only disappoint their own constituents but also let down people of Pakistan", he stated this while addressing a meeting of party's Relief Co-ordination Committee, here at PML House.
Mushahid added that one-fourth area of the country is under water but they (politicians) are not coming forward to help even their voters and supporters. "This is a test for Pakistani political elite and their capacity to deliver to the people of Pakistan. If they fail in this test, the entire political system would be discredited. Already, Pakistani political elite is being viewed as greedy and grabby, always ready and willing to take but unwilling to give back to the society," he remarked.
He said floods have wreaked havoc in most parts of the country and already claimed around two thousand precious lives. "This is a huge challenge and the entire nation should rise to the occasion to face it. This needs a sustained and ongoing assistance to the affectees, which are in millions across country. Some have lost their loved one while others lifelong struggle earned assets. We have to return their losses and heal their wounds," he added.
He quoted Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, "Let it not be said that we did not prove ourselves equal to the task. Let us come forward rising above all petty personal, lingual, sectarian and provincial biases and differences to help the needy and deprived. Let us prove our worth of being a nation.
All PML workers should be frontline supporters of this service to the humanity as per the vision of Quaid-e-Azam," he remarked. PML-Q Secretary General directed chairperson of PML Health Committee Dr Shazia Asad to submit a detailed report next week on the establishment of medical camps in flood-hit areas. The meeting also expressed concern over the reports that no assistance is being provided to the flood victims in Dera Ismail Khan. Vice President PML-Q, Ajmal Khan Wazir was directed to contact the flood affectees in DI Khan so as if there was no government assistance, PML could send its consignments for them.
Secretary Finance Imtiyaz Ranjha, President Women's Wing Mrs Farrukh Khan, Deputy Secretary Information Mustafa Malik, Vice President Ajmal Khan Wazir, Farzana Malik, Surayya Nasim, Dr Shazia Asad, and others also attended the meeting.
