Protests by the students of Quaid-i-Azam Medical College continued on Saturday, demanding removal of principal of the college, arrest of policemen who thrashed the students, even the girl-students, and withdrawal of cases instituted against 160 students. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has ordered to conduct inquiry into the incident of manhandling of the students.
Police in Bahawalpur on Friday baton-charged students of Quaid-i-Azam Medical College, besides hurting female students' modesty by snatching their headscarves and veils when they had taken to street to protest against the college administration's high-handedness. Scores of protesting students sustained severe injuries when police attempted to disperse the students.
The students were protesting against the college principal's high-handedness, load-shedding, increase in academic fees and faulty examination system, when the Principal Dr Professor Ejaz Shah summoned police, which tortured the students and arrested more than 23 of them. Cases were also registered against 160 students, under various charges, on the report of the principal. Lamenting upon the incident, people of the area have condemned the act of police and demanded action against the delinquent police officials.
