The Human Rights Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) in its meeting sought Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry's role in ending the culture of extra judicial killing by Punjab police. The body, which met here at the Supreme Court building and attended by its chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Nasrullah Warraich and Chaudhry Muhammad Ashrafwalla and Dr A Khalid Ranjha as members, adopted a resolution against brutal murder of two young brothers in Sialkot.
It strongly condemned the act, which took place in the presence of police officials and termed it 'worst type of cases of extra judicial killings'. The body also lauded the timely intervention of the CJP for taking notice of the heinous act. The body in its other resolution requested the American Bar Association to use its good offices for early release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui on parole or humanitarian grounds. PBC Human Rights Committee also expressed its deep grief and shock on the devastation caused by floods in four provinces. It called for collective efforts to alleviate sufferings of the affected people. It suggested that the Zakat funds should be utilised for rehabilitation of flood victims.
