In an effort to save the flood affected children from further education losses, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has started opening makeshift schools in the relief camps established across the city, Business Recorder learnt Monday. According to sources, the CDGK has initiated the move by opening a school in the Razzaqabad Relief Camp - established in Bin Qasim Town where classes of the first standard to the metric level have started.
To begin with, the city government is using the services of those people, living in the relief camps, who are capable of imparting the requisite knowledge to the children. However the CDGK would provide teachers as and when required, sources added. The CDGK has also taken measures for the promotion of healthy activities in the relief camps and in this regard, facilities of various sports like football, cricket and volleyball were being provided in the relief camps.
On the other hand, according to official sources in CDGK, the government has also formed a three-member committee to audit the expenditures incurred on the establishment of relief camps and provision of food, water and other basic facilities to the flood victims. The committee, headed by EDO Transport & Communication and District Officer Finance & Planning CDGK and Assistant Director Local Fund Audit Government of Sindh as its members, would submit its report to the Sindh government.
All concerned departments including Revenue Department, Municipal Services Department, Works & Services Department and Administrator Secretariat CDGK would co-ordinate and provide respective details of expenditures.
