After four days of dry weather, river inflow in the four live rivers has fallen to mere 316,000 cusecs in the upper regions, indicating that the flood situation may become normal after a week across the country, though it might take years to mitigate effects of the devastating catastrophe.
According to 30th August rivers flows and reservoirs level report of Wapda, water flow in the mighty Indus has fallen to 168,000 cusecs at Tarbela Dam, which has filled to capacity. River Kabul, which had played havoc in Khyber-Pakhtonkhwa province, especially in the Peshawar valley, has subdued with a flow of 50,000 cusecs. Similarly, River Jhelum and River Chenab are flowing normally with 43,000 cusecs and 55,000 cusecs respectively at Mangla and Marala head-works. According to the latest hydrological conditions, River Indus at Kotri is likely to continue in Exceptionally High flood level in falling trend, ranging between 860,000 to 800,000 (cusecs) on Tuesday.
FLOOD SITUATION ON TUESDAY River Indus at Kotri is in 'Exceptionally High Flood' while River Indus at Guddu & Sukkur is in High Flood. River Indus at Taunsa, River Chenab at Trimmu and River Sutlej at Sulemanki are in Low Flood.
Meanwhile, Flood Forecasting Division clarified here on Monday that the flow of water in River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala is not increasing since 28th August 2010. The maximum gauge height recorded at Ganda Singh Wala is 18 ft (approximate flow is about 35,000 - 40,000 cusecs, which is below low level flood) on 27th August 2010 whereas after gradual falling, Monday gauge height is 13.5 feet.
Similarly, no increased flow has been observed in river Ravi at Jassar as well as in Nullah Deg (tributary of river Ravi). Maximum flow of water during last 48 hours in River Ravi at Jassar is 7250 cusecs and in Nullah deg is below 1000 cusecs which are below low level flood.
MET OFFICE FORECAST FOR TUESDAY Mainly dry weather is expected over most parts of the country. However, isolated thundershowers are expected over the sub-mountainous areas of Northeast Punjab and Kashmir.
